Warm up with our quality firewood

Birch is our personal favourite type of wood here at New Leaf.  It is a bit more costly, but is worth it!  Birch burns hot (21.8 million  BTU per cord) and burns the longest of the four wood types we handle.  Birch also leaves the least amount of ash behind! It is a great all-around wood for indoor & outdoor use. 

Tamarack burns the hottest of the four types of wood (28.7 milllion BTU per cord). Like birch, tamarack leaves very little ash.  However, it doesn't burn as long as birch. Some people choose tamarack for the lovely aroma that it emits. Tamarack is good for inside and outside use. 

Of course, some people choose pine because they thoroughly enjoy its beautiful scent. Pine burns a bit cooler (17. 1 million BTU per cord.)  This is better if you have an older wood stove.  Pine has  lovely spark and a cozy snapping sound.   means that it is great in your fireplace, but not necessarily the best choice for a campfire. Pine leaves a limited amount of ash. 

Poplar is the least costly option in our wood lot. It gives off the least amount of heat ( 14.7 million BTU per cord), but makes a great campfire.  Our poplar is sourced from the northern forests so it is a better quality than a lot of local poplar. 

Poplar leaves the most ash of the four wood types.
